As much as I love reading funny romance books that are very awkward to read in public because it makes me laugh like a crazy woman, I also love reading tragic love stories that are also very hard to read in public because of sudden burst of sad feelings and heartbroken tears. Although these tragic love stories may sound stressful to read, let me just clarify that if it was done right you’ll forget about how heartbroken or sad you were at the beginning because it’s still a love story, and love is not love if there’s not happiness in the end. I’m happy to say that Archer’s Voice, although broke my heart into a million pieces, made me a very happy reader/fan after finishing it in one sitting.
Try to believe that maybe more light shines out of those who have the most cracks.
Archer Hale and Bree Prescott both has scars they’ve both been running away from. Archer, a mute that resulted from an incident in the past, chose to live a life in seclusion to avoid the staring and whispering, and to put it simply, to stay invisible to other people. Bree, on the other hand, ran away and arrived in a small town where Archer lives in her struggle to get over her father’s murder and her attack. One was struggling over the guilt of fighting and the other was struggling over the guilt of not doing so. Neither knew that while they were running away from what life has given to them, they’ll end up with each other, healing each others wounds and making their scars bearable.
Seeing Archer and Bree’s story unfold was so heartwarming. Witnessing their love story has brought a lot of emotions that I never thought was possible in one sitting. I felt like a fan stepping inside the pages of this book and seeing these two fall for each other first-hand, and I loved every bit of it. These two characters were awe-inspiring and every time something bad came their way I would always feel like hugging them or comforting them because although these two were pitiful, they weren’t exaggerated. These two character’s personality were just naturally presented rather than stating the obvious word per word. It was one of the reason why it was easy for me to connect with these characters. Destiny wanted them together and so did I. Just thinking about these two apart makes my heart hurt for the two of them.
And sometimes, that’s all it takes–one person who’s willing to listen to your heart, to the sound no one else has ever tried to hear.
I obviously love these two but I just want to say that Archer Hale was like love personified. He wasn’t perfect and his wounds defined him, until Bree, but all these, his flaws, was what made him perfect to me. Maybe it was because he can’t speak that made his expressions of love more endearing, but everything in him, his naivety and his ability to capture Bree’s, and mine, hearts without him knowing was what made him more lovable. His gestures and his way to communicate was a million times better than silly promises made by the mouth because to him it was all about making sure Bree knows AND feels that he loves her. I can’t count how many times my heart has fallen for this guy. I fell in love with Archer the way Bree did, not knowing when it started or how.
It was just him being him, and somehow that made it even more appealing.
Aside from its characters I also loved the storyline which was unique although it was actually quite simple if you look into it more. But what made this special was that even if the events were quite simple, they were sequenced or presented in the right time. It was like destiny was the author and not Mia Sheridan. Everything was done right specially the romantic, and steamy scenes, which I must say were really sexy. I loved how perfectly paced the story was and how this book proved that sex scenes aren’t the only ones that can provide steam in a story. I swear, Mia Sheridan was an artist.*claps* This book was so damn good I had to try reading in a slower pace just to prolong the experience.
Archer’s Voice isn’t like any other NA book I’ve read. This book literally has a broken character, namely Archer, and a storyline that, although might have seem cliché in a television show, was done beautifully in this book. I was blown with how Mia Sheridan managed to intertwine the past and the present events in this book without sacrificing either one of them. This definitely landed in my top favorites, and made me want to read more from her and push everyone I know who is into NA to try this soon because I know for sure they won’t regret reading this one. I can babble all-day about this book and know it would still be not enough to describe how amazing my experience was while reading this because there’s so much more to this book that words can not describe that the heart can only understand.
Sometimes an understanding silence was better than a bunch of meaningless words.
